What a fantastic idea! This has become a family fave. - Janet
Here’s a Takeaway alternative that you can make at home from simple ingredients bought from the supermarket. Its quicker, cheaper and most likely healthier than your usual takeaways.
Healthier Takeaways:
Dumplings, Edamame Beans & Japanese Salad.
With Homemade Dipping Sauce & Dressing.
Dumplings
Buy dumplings from the freezer section of the supermarket. There are a few different instructions on how to cook them. I prefer the pan fry option which is actually dropping them in a little oil in a pan then filling the pan with water until the water comes halfway up the dumplings. Simmer until the water evaporates. Full instructions on pack. Serve with Homemade dipping sauce.
Dumpling Dipping Sauce
2 Tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp rice vinegar
1 tsp chilli oil or chilli flakes to taste.
1/2 tsp sesame oil
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. You could leave out the chilli for children!
Edamame Beans
Buy edamame beans in the pods from the freezer section of your supermarket. Put them in a bowl of water and heat for a couple of minutes. They are already cooked so they just need to be warmed. Full instructions on pack.
Japanese Salad
Choose a coleslaw or rainbow salad style salad bag from your supermarket. Try and choose one with cabbage and carrot.
Japanese Salad Dressing
2Tbsp Japanese mayo
2 Tbsp rice vinegar
1 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
1/2 tsp mirin
1/2 tsp sesame oil
Combine all ingredients and serve with salad just before eating.
We like to serve up the dumplings, dipping sauce, edamame beans and Japanese salad in 4 separate dishes in the middle of the table for the family to share.
